Session FAQ

What can I expect from a session with Jaime Millham Photography?   First and foremost….FUN!  I absolutley love what I do, and I want you to have just as much fun during your session as I know I’m going to have!  Once you have booked a session I will discuss the details with you. The location is completely up to you, as I want the photos to reflect your families unique personalities.  We can meet in your living room, your backyard, a park your kids like to go to, downtown, in the valley, my studio…you name it!  I want you to choose a setting that is “you”.   Sessions typically last a couple hours and are never rushed.  I like to spend time building a relationship with you and your family in order to get your child or children to relax and be their true self (and get used to the goofy lady behind the lens!).

Tell me a bit about newborn sessions.   If you’re looking for sleepy, curled up newborn photos,  I recommend a session within your baby’s first 10 days of life.   The younger your baby is, the easier it is to keep them asleep through all the repositioning.  It’s a good idea to book your newborn session while you are still pregnant.  I have a limited number of sessions that I hold each month so you want to be sure you have a (tentative) date reserved – no worries, I know our sweet bundles never come when we expect, so changes to your session date can and will be made if necessary!   Newborn sessions usually last at least two hours, sometimes more.  Newborns are on their own schedule and there needs to be plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, etc.  If you have older siblings that you would like to include in the session, that’s great….just be sure to have another caregiver nearby to help entertain them.  Have a drink and snacks close by!

How about children’s sessions?  The best age to photograph babies is whenever they reach a milestone (usually 6-8 months). This is the age where they are sitting on their own but not yet crawling and able to get away from me.  The next age that is very popular is one year olds. These guys know how to keep me on my toes and they generally don’t sit still for too long, but they’re so much fun!   After the first birthday, there really isn’t a bad time to photograph your child.  If the mood strikes you, give me a call and we’ll capture the first missing tooth, a new haircut, birthday parties, the last summer before heading to Kindergarten…anything momentous and special that you want to remember forever.

What should we wear?  I recommend clothing with texture, but no logos or busy designs.  Choose clothing that reflects not only your child’s personality, but also something that will compliment the location for the shoot.    For newborns, their birthday suit is always what I recommend!  Hats, jewelry, scarves, special toys, etc help to make a photograph more interesting and personal.  Allow your child to just be themselves – if they’re old enough, let them pick out an outfit on their own and capture their unique style!  When choosing outfits for family photos, try to avoid too many colors and patterns.  I like to stay away from the “everyone in jeans and a white t-shirt look” and recommend complimentary colors and textures.

When do I pay for my session?  Your session fee is due at the time of booking.  Any print orders must be paid in full once your order has been placed.  Please allow approximately 2 weeks for delivery product.

When do I get to see my proofs?   A ‘sneak peek’ will be posted within 48 hours of your session.  Your full on-line gallery will be available approximately two weeks after your session.  Galleries are password protected, but you are always more than welcome to share your password with family and friends!

I’m ready to order.  Now what?  All orders can be placed either by email or in person.  Payment is due at the time of your order and can be paid by cash, cheque, or email transfer.
